Adenoidectomy
Adenoidectomy is a quick, safe procedure to remove enlarged adenoids, small glands located at the back of the nose. They can become chronically swollen, leading to blocked nasal passages, snoring, and frequent ear or sinus infections.
When is it needed?
Adenoidectomy may be recommended if your child has:
Persistent nasal blockage or mouth breathing
Loud snoring or disturbed sleep
Frequent ear infections or glue ear
Ongoing sinus infections
The procedure
Performed under general anaesthesia, the surgery takes 20–30 minutes. The adenoids are removed through the mouth—no cuts or stitches are required. Many children go home the same day, often combined with tonsillectomy or grommet insertion if needed.
Benefits
Clearer nasal breathing
Fewer ear and sinus infections
Better sleep quality
Improved speech and swallowing
Recovery
Most children recover in 1–2 weeks with simple aftercare, including rest, soft foods, and plenty of fluids.
