Parathyroid surgery

Parathyroid Surgery
Parathyroid surgery is performed to remove one or more of the parathyroid glands when they become overactive (a condition called hyperparathyroidism), which can cause high calcium levels, kidney stones, bone thinning, and fatigue.

As a consultant ENT and head & neck surgeon, I provide expert, targeted care for parathyroid conditions using minimally invasive techniques whenever possible.

What to Expect:

  • Procedure: A small incision is made in the neck under general anaesthetic. The overactive gland(s) are identified and removed.

  • Recovery: Most patients go home the same day or after one night, with a quick return to normal activities.

  • Risks: These are low but may include voice changes, bleeding, or low calcium levels, which are usually temporary.

  • Aftercare: Calcium and vitamin D levels are monitored, and most patients feel significantly better within days of surgery.

I will guide you through the process with clear explanations and a personalised approach, ensuring safe and effective treatment.
