Nose bleeds/Epistaxis

Nosebleeds are common and usually not serious, but frequent or heavy episodes may need further investigation. Bleeding often comes from the front part of the nose and may be triggered by dryness, trauma, or underlying conditions.

Common Causes:

  • Dry air or nose picking

  • Colds or sinus infections

  • Blood thinners or high blood pressure

  • Nasal trauma

  • Structural issues (e.g. deviated septum)

  • Underlying blood vessel or clotting problems

When to Seek Help:
You should see an ENT specialist if you experience:

  • Frequent or heavy nosebleeds

  • Bleeding from one side only

  • Bleeding that is hard to stop or causes dizziness

  • Bleeding in children or older adults without clear cause

Treatment Options:

  • Nasal cautery (to seal bleeding vessels)

  • Nasal packing (in more severe cases)

  • Investigating and treating any underlying cause

  • Surgical intervention in recurrent or complex cases

If you're experiencing troublesome or repeated nosebleeds, I can provide a full ENT assessment and appropriate treatment.
