Throat cancer

Throat cancer arises in the middle of the throat or voice box. Mr Adeel is experienced in diagnosing and treating these problems.

Understanding Your Throat:

The pharynx is a muscular connection between your mouth/nostrils and windpipe. The voice box, also known as the larynx, is found beneath the throat and holds vocal cords involved in vibration, producing sound.

Types of Throat Cancer:

Laryngeal cancer is a cancer of the voice box

Oropharyngeal cancer is cancer of the tonsils and the base of the tongue.

Hypopharyngeal cancer is a cancer of the lower throat close to the oesophagus.

Symptoms to Watch For:

Hoarseness, or a sore throat that has lasted for over three weeks.

Lump in the neck

Difficulty in swallowing

Unexplained weight loss

Earache

Persistent cough

Risk Factors:

Tobacco use

Heavy alcohol consumption

HPV infection: Human papillomavirus (HPV), is a rising cause of throat cancer, mainly among young people.

Importance of Early Diagnosis:

Early detection will improve the chances of successful treatment. Please get in touch with us if you have been having these symptoms. Mr Adeel will conduct a complete physical exam, including one with a thin camera. You may also need imaging like CT or MRI scans.

Treatment Options:

Treatment for throat cancer depends on the type, stage, and location of the tumour. Common modalities of treatment encompass surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy.
